Tom Emmer, nominated for the US House of Representatives speaker, was dropped just hours after being nominated. He has become the third nominee without enough support from his party members to lead the chamber.
Tom Emmer Withdraws from Speaker of the House Race
Emmer, from Minnesota, was picked as the perfect choice earlier on Tuesday, but more than 20 Republican lawmakers and Donald Trump said they would not support him. The house has been out of the speak since 03 October 2023 when Kevin McCarthy of California was ousted.
House Republica has struggled to choose the right candidate who every member can support, but the drop of Tom Emmer again puts the house at the start. During the Tuesday meeting between the Republican lawmakers, they released a new list of six candidates: Byron Donalds of Florida, Mark Green of Tennessee, Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee, Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, Roger Williams of Texas, and Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
The same thing happened with Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio when they could not gather enough support from their party members to replace Mr McCarthy. Now, the same thing has happened with Emmer.
