Currently, the google play store is facing a battle against the infiltration of malicious apps, or, we can say, against the apps violating its policies. The platform’s open nature offers extensive submissions, which leads to malicious sneaking into the Play Store and harms Android phones.
In such a recent incident, google has taken down 43 battery-draining apps secretly feeding on the phone’s battery. The largest platform of apps has suspended 43 battery-draining apps that were loading ads even when someone is not using the application or the phone’s screen is off. The app’s combined downloads were 2.5 million, and not only were these apps showing ads and draining batteries, but they were also consuming a lot of data even though the phone was in sleep mode and no one was using them.
These apps have been identified by the Mobile Research Team at McAfee, and then they have reported to Google that these battery-draining apps are violating the terms of Google. Most apps have been removed from the play store, while some apps have been updated by their developers.
