Companies like Meta and Microsoft already hold intellectual property rights for the “X” in different fields. The word “X” is commonly used and cited in trademarks. It is a joint candidate for trademark fights. So the “X,” formerly known as “Twitter,” could face legal challenges in the future.
Josh Gerben, the trademark attorney, has said there is a 100% chance that the company could face lawsuits by somebody for rebranding Twitter and using “X” as Twitter’s New Logo. He has counted over 900 active US trademark registrations covering the letter “X” in various industries.
There are chances that the trademark owners can claim infringement if they think their audience is getting confused by this New Logo Of Twitter. And for remedies, the company may have to pay monetary damages, or there might be a blockage on the usage.
Microsoft has held X’s trademark since 2013 for the Xbox video game system. While Meta, who has recently launched Threads, a rival app to Twitter, also holds the trademark for X since 2019 for fields including software and social media.
Gerben said that Microsoft or Meta might not sue Elon Musk’s company for using X in the new logo of Twitter until they feel threatened that Twitter’s X infringes on the brand equity they built in the letter.
However, all three companies have not commented on this yet. So what do you think this new logo of Twitter will be in the future? Will it be the logo for a lifetime, or will the bluebird return? And also, tell us if you liked this new logo on Twitter.
