Yesterday, we saw one of the best knocks of all time in the history of the ODI World Cup, where Glenn Maxwell made an astonishing 201 runs while chasing the 292 targets set by Afghanistan.
Glenn Maxwell’s Record-Breaking 201*
What made the inning special was that Maxwell was suffering from an injury and unable to walk correctly. However, he still managed to lead Team Australia to win in yesterday’s match at Wankhede Stadium. His dedication has shown how much this win matters to him because all the top batters had lost their wicket. Now, it was a do-or-die match. Maxwell took responsibility and showed a new and incredible way of cricket when he scored a double century and made Team Australia qualify for the semi-finals.
After the inning, fans and other prominent celebrities praised the knock by Glenn Maxwell, including Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh. In the interview, Harbhajan said, “The world will remember Maxwell for this inning; he has made the best innings of his career, and he will shock himself if he plays a better knock than this. The thing which he has done today is happened just once in 100 years.”
The interviewer added that this knock would remind all of the same type of knock played by Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup, when India was at 17/5 while playing against Zimbabwe, and Kapil Dev made 175 runs on 138 balls.
Harbhajan replied that Maxwell’s knock was even better than that of Kapil Dev because he was injured and could not run; still, he managed to smash fours and sixes and not only completed his double century but also made his team qualify for the semi-final. Harbhajan said that Kapil Dev has made runs while setting a target for Zimbabwe, while Glenn Maxwell has made it while chasing, so it’s even better. But as both the innings differed, it is not right to compare them. Harbhajan said that he just wanted to salute this man.
