More and more UK Amazon Workers are taking part in the ongoing strike for the increase in hourly pay rate against the tech giant. GMB members were already on strike from 16 April to 18 April for the hourly pay rise to £15 and have announced a further strike for three more days starting from 21 April.

Amazon workers, also members of GMB earlier, went on strike in January 2023 against the tech giant’s hourly pay rise by 50 pence. They were the first Amazon workers to act against the UK Amazon company.
Amanda Gearing – Senior organizer at GMB, told the press that the newish pay rise of £10.15 an hour is not enough for the Amazon workers. They can’t live on that. Workers are not able to pay their bills. They were using food banks and worried that they would be evicted.
On the other hand, Amazon officials said they are doing their best to provide competitive wages and ensure a better work environment. Recently they have raised the hourly wage rate for the UK team. Amazon officials have also revealed that their hourly wage rate has increased by 10% in the last seven months and more than 37% since 2018.
Further, Amazon officials have said they also provide their employees with various benefits, including a positive work environment and other growth opportunities. Because of these things, people love to work with Amazon.
However, the GMB union has announced that they will further apply at the UK’s Central Arbitration Committee – which oversees the disputes at the workplace in the UK if half of the Coventry warehouse workers will join their hands. And they will continue to strike till Amazon officials agree to talk with them about the pay raise.
