Officials fear that the death count of the Friday earthquake in Jajarkot might rise because of the hilly area, and officials are not able to contact the center of the quake due to the hilly area. Jajarkot is about 500 kilometers west of the capital city, Kathmandu, with a population of 190,000, and various villages are located on this distant hill.
Nepal police officer also revealed that their search and rescue operation was stopped due to the landslide because of the quake, which hit the roads to reach the affected areas. Due to the quake, thousands of buildings in Jajarkot and the neighboring Rukum West district collapsed or got cracks, which made them uninhabitable.
This was the deadliest earthquake since 2015 when 9000 people were killed in 2 earthquakes in Nepal. At that time, Whole towns, centuries-old temples, and other historic sites were destroyed to rubble, which has cost the economy $6 billion.
