Nasa has shared some stunning images of MARS captured using MAVEN – Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN. Nasa has revealed stunning tie-dye views of Mars in these two ultraviolet images.
NASA’s MAVEN Mission Reveals Martian Tie-Dye Beauty
The MAVEN took the first image of the southern hemisphere in July 2022 during summer, which occurs when Mars passes closest to the Sun. The second image is of the northern hemisphere of Mars and was taken in January 2023 when Mars has been passed the farthest point from the Sun.
MAVEN mission has a unique instrument that helps us see Mars in ultraviolet wavelengths, also called IUVS – Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrograph. IUVS helps us see the insights of the atmosphere when we see any planet and also helps us remarkably see the surface features.
Nasa has said we can’t see these ultraviolet wavelengths with our eyes. To view these stunning visuals, the images have been rendered by varying brightness levels of three ultraviolet wavelength ranges, red, blue, and green. After processing the images, the images show atmospheric ozone in purple color and clouds and hazes as white and blue, while the surface has been showing as tan or green based on the optimization levels.
