Google Pixel Smartphones in India
So now Google will be the latest global technology player who will open its production unit for Google pixel smartphones in India. The potential partners it is in talks with have won Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s production-linked financial incentives, which have helped boost local manufacturing. Apple has also used that to widen its supplier base in India, which has helped it boost its iPhone output to triple, which was more than $7 billion in the fiscal year 2023.
PM Modi is also pitching India as an alternative manufacturing hub after countries fear investing in China and moving out of their plants from China after Covid-19 and the trade war between Washington and Beijing. Apart from this, PM Modi has also scheduled to visit the US this week and will be a part of the discussion to remove tech trade barriers between both countries.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the technology minister of India, also met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai last month at the headquarter of the company in Mountain View, California, for a boost on the discussion based on PM Modi’s Local manufacturing hub.
Key Google executives who visited India this month for partnership talks include Maggie Wei, a senior director of global sustaining product operations, and Ana Corrales, operating chief of its consumer hardware arm. However, Lava, Dixon, Google, and Foxconn have not commented.
Per Counterpoint research, google built over 9 million Pixel smartphones last year. Now google wants to move from China and Vietnam and start production of Google Pixel smartphones in India. The Pixel phones are very sophisticated smartphones, and Google uses its flagship hardware product to show what its phones are capable of if properly optimized.
