Ichthyosaurs are a group of Marine Reptiles and were mostly there at the time of dinosaurs. Some of them were 70 feet long.
Fossils of 10 Feet long Ichthyosaurs Found
But now, 250 Million years old and 10 Feet long, fossils of these ancient marine reptiles have been found, which is doubtful about their origin. As per the experts, these reptiles had lived for around 2 million years. But the earth’s worst mass extinction ended the Permian period and wiped out around 90% of the species from the planet.
The fossils of Ichthyasurs have been found near Spitsbergen, an Island of Norwegia. Earlier in China, fossils of similar 248 million-year specimens were also found. As per the researchers, Ichtyasurs appeared on the planet around 250 million years ago but were wiped out around 90 million years ago. Earlier, it was supposed that the initial Ichtyyasurs were primitive creatures similar to their land-living ancestors. Still, the fossils discovered have shown that these belong to more advanced aquatic predators, and thus the earlier theories may have been wrong about the origin of these reptiles.
There are a lot of theories as per the researchers, but it has been found that the initial Ichthyosaurs appeared much earlier than we have predicted.
