The laboratory chief at the Lazarev Mammoth Museum Laboratory at the North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, eastern Siberia – Mr. Maxim Cheprasov, has said that finding the body of a 3500-year-old brown bear is a unique discovery. The bear was found on the Bolshoy Etherican River’s east side; thus, it has been named Etherican brown bear.
The bear has been described as 172 pounds (75 kg) in weight and 5.09 ft (1.55 meters) tall, and it has been reported that the extreme temperature has helped the preservation of the 3500-year-old brown bear’s soft tissues. Cheprasov said that it was for the first time that scientists got a body with soft tissues in their hands, and it would further help them to study the brain and the internal organs of such an old creature.
The Siberian scientist cut down the bear’s tough hide, allowing them to examine the brain of the 3500-year-old brown bear. Further on dissecting the old creature, pink tissues and the yellow fat have adequately visible to the scientists.
Before extracting the brain, scientists used a vacuum cleaner to suck up the bone’s dust. The genetic analysis of the brown bear has shown that there is not much difference between the mitochondrial DNA of the ancient bear with the modern bear.
Further, Cheprasov has reported that the bear was 2-3 years old and died due to some injury in its spine. However, it is still unclear how the 3500-year-old brown bear came to Island because it has been divided from the mainland with a strait of 31 miles. It has been supposed that maybe the bear has swum to the Island.
So nowadays a lot of old creatures has been found by scientist or locals. Have you gone through any of the ancient creatures yet? Feel free to share your experience with us as well.
