England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, has described his joy after New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum took up the new post of the head coach of England’s bilateral T/20I sides. Stokes described it as an “unbelievable move” for the game of English cricket. New Zealand Cricket Board promotes McCullum to stand as captain of both Test and the limited-overs teams in return for a new three-year contract. From 2025, McCullum will be in charge of England’s cricket teams until at least 2027. It is considered that he has an aggressive and positive playing style that will be effective in conformity with the new age one day and Test cricket.
Stokes is on record stating that he enjoys the fact that Brendon McCullum ran a players’ team that encouraged the players to go out to the pitch and play without any fear. ‘’It will be fun to wait and witness what Brendon will deliver for white-ball cricket,” Stokes added. The new appointment of McCullum is one of the outcomes of the long-term centralization of the England cricket team.
