Indian foreign ministry has said that they welcome the release of all of the 8 Indian navy veterans who were working for the Dahra Global company and detained in Qatar. Veterans did not have any prior information of their release; after they had been announced freed, the embassy took them away, and then they onboarded the IndiGo and returned to their home, India, after 02:00 am this morning.
8 Veterans who were detained by the Qatar officials last August are Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, Commander Amit Nagpal, and Sailor Ragesh, who Dahra Global employed to assist the introduction of the Italian U212 stealth submarines into the Emiri Naval Force of Qatar.
However, they all were detained in Qatar, and the Qatari court sentenced them to death on 26 October 2023. Indian officials said they were deeply shocked at this verdict and were exploring all their legal options to save them. So, after the diplomatic intervention by India, the death penalty has been reduced, and the Indian Navy veterans are back home.
Navy veterans have thanked PM Modi and the government for securing their release. Veterans said that now we are back in India, and we want to thank PM Modi because their release was only possible because of PM Modi’s intervention in this matter. Further, they added that they had to wait for over 18 months to return to their home, and now they are grateful to our PM for their release.
