The CAR-T Cell Therapy of India has successfully cured its first cancer patient. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation recently approved the therapy for commercial use.

This Indian therapy genetically reprograms the immunity system of the patient to fight cancer cells. The patient was Dr (Col) VK Gupta, a gastroenterologist from Delhi. He has taken this CAR-T Cell Therapy to cure his cancer by paying Rs. 42 lakh, and if he could go for the treatment abroad, then he would have to pay over four crores.
CAR-T Cell Therapy is a type of immunotherapy that genetically engineers the T cells, a type of white blood cells of the patient, to fight cancer cells. In this therapy, the patient’s T cells have been modified in the laboratory to express a particular type of protein known as a chimeric antigen receptor and then reinfused in the patient to help him fight cancer.
