The National Highway Authority of India plans to build 10,000 km of Digital Highways nationwide by 2025, using Optical Fiber Cable infrastructure. As per the statement, National Highways Logistics Management Limited will develop the integrated utility corridors and implement the “Digital Highways” network along with the national highway to develop the OFC infrastructure.

512 km on the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor and 1,367 kilometers on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway have been identified as the pilot route for developing this digital highway. Implementing OFC and developing these digital highways will help spread the upcoming 5G and 6G services to regular areas more easily.
Recently 246-km Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been inaugurated and will be the backbone for rolling out the 5G services in the area as it has been featured with three-meter dedicated utility corridors used to lay OFC.
As per the official statement, laying OFC along with the selected national highways has been started and is expected to be completed within one year. The OFC infrastructure will offer direct “Plug-n-play” or “Fiber On Demand” services to the telecom providers through some online applications. This will be open for all, and the eligible entities will be able to enjoy the services of these OFCs.
The development of these digital highways will not only have a significant impact on the growth of the country but also helps in digitalizing India.
