Previously, the organisation had proposed mere guidelines for the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code in the state and, in recent developments, drafted the rules and regulations for the same that have been handed over to the present government in Uttarakhand. It was made on Friday in what could be considered a major development towards bringing the UCC into force in the state. The 75-page document was given to the Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, by the government-formed nine-member committee with Shatrughna Singh, former chief secretary, heading it at the secretariat regime.
Uttarakhand Advances Uniform Civil Code Submits
Basically, the work of this committee was to develop the guidelines that will be used in the framework for the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand. A UCRC provides for a uniform code for the entire population of the country relating to all aspects of civil life, including marriage, divorce, and inheritance. By submitting this draft, Uttaranchal has gone nearer to practising the practicality of UCC, an issue that has been debated at the national level for some time. The committee has been appreciated by Chief Minister Dhami, and the government is committed to implementing the UCC in the state.
He said that through the UCC, the plights of the various communities in terms of the recognition of their personal laws are dealt with fairly and equitably. The government will now study the draft before putting into practice the final process. It would have been advisable for the Uttarakhand government to go ahead with this initiative as it may well act as an example for other states in the country which are looking forward to implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the future. The final draft is to be submitted, and this means that the state is willing to proceed to legislate for fairness for all its people by providing legal solutions.
