Amit Shah announced five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh on Monday and they are likely to bring major changes in the region. The academic districts proposed and formulated to create improve the governance structures new districts are Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, Changthang and all these changes would lead to the brought closer proximity and easy access to those services.

This was in a post on X, which used to be twitter and Shah explained the government’s plan as to why this would happen. In his words, the establishment of these new district will guarantee that social services intended for the people of Ladakh gets delivered to their door steps. Thus the government plans to enhance the administrative structure and make the governance easy in all corners of the Union Territory through these districts.
Union Territory of Ladakh which was raised to the status of a separate from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 has been experiencing several administrative reforms. The inclusion of these five districts further is viewed in that light as a move to enhancing the quality of human lives especially those in the hard-to-reach hinterlands.
Every one of these new districts, namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang, has a different terrain and social setup, and it is believed that with this division, the government will be able to attend to them more efficiently. Many people in the region have hailed this through the notion that it will foster better infrastructure, health care, education and in general development. Union Territory of Ladakh to the newly created districts, the administration will be better placed to tackle various needs in the region hence avoiding any areas in the Ladakh region lag behind in development.
