Due to the recent heavy rainfall in the Narmadapuram and Bhopal regions, five Tawa Dam and Bhadbhada Dam gates were opened on Friday. To manage the increased inflow, the Tawa Dam in the Narmadapuram District’s Tawa River and the Bhadbhada Dam in Bhopal’s Bada Talab (Upper Lake) had to release water. This decision was made after significant rainfall affected these dams’ catchment areas. The situation was described by N K Suryavanshi, the Tawa Dam Project’s Sub Divisional Officer. There was heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the Tawa and Bhadbhada Dam, specifically in the Pachmarhi region.

Water from a dam in Sarni was released early in the morning. Due to the significant water inflow, we had to open five gates at the Tawa and Bhadbhada Dam to maintain the governing level. River and dam water levels have rapidly risen due to the torrential downpours affecting the region. As a precaution, these dams’ gates are opened to prevent overflow and potential flooding. The authorities closely monitor the situation to guarantee the local population’s safety and infrastructure.
To control Bada Talab’s water levels, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam had to be opened in Bhopal. Regulating the level of this lake is essential for both the water supply and the prevention of flooding because it is a vital water source for the state capital. It has been advised to remain vigilant and keep up with any updates from the local authorities. The government works with various departments to manage potential risks effectively.
