This strike alert has come after a failed discussion with the MK Stalin-led government where various transport Union of the state came to discuss the signing of the 15th wage revision agreement to increase the pay, fill vacancies in bus driver and conductor posts, and revision of dearness allowance for pensioners. But the officials have refused to accept any of the demands from above.
This led to the statewide bus strike in Tamil Nadu, starting today and will continue indefinitely. They have said that they are not asking for any pay raise. Instead, they are asking to release their Dearness Allowance, pending for the last eight years. One of the union leaders said that if the government can’t accept this demand, they have no right to ask for the strike’s cancellation.
Furthermore, the strike was announced just before the Pongal festival of Tamil, which will undoubtedly lead to chaos and festival rush.
However, State Transport Minister S S Sivasankar, on the other hand, is saying that there is a political agenda behind this bus strike in Tamil Nadu and warned of appropriate action over the strike. He also said these demands would be met when they improved their financial situation.
