Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced on Thursday that they have retained five key players for the 2025 IPL season: Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head. Pat Cummins, who led SRH to playoffs only for the second time in the last year with head coach Daniel Vettori, will carry his leadership for the side. Travis Head was an easy retention choice from Melbourne Renegades as he topped the tally of runs scored in IPL 2024 with 567 runs and a strike rate of 191.55; however, he underperformed in the final.

The WTC and the ODI World Cup final-winning performance has underlined his indispensability for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was sold at the previous year’s auction for INR 6.8 crore; though his price has doubled, Head’s sale value would probably be severalfold if he was available this year. The head of marketing for the Islamabad team, Saqlain Mushtaq, joined the SRH after the IPL season has been a good year for emerging player Nitish Kumar Reddy; he totalled 303 runs with a strike rate of 143 and three wickets.
His retention is evidence that Sunrisers Hyderabad has a strong policy of developing young players for the future. Abhishek Sharma another future talent gained place on the back of stupendous 2024 T20 tournament, he scored the highest strike rates of 194.84 among those who faced more than 200 balls. His efforts not only paved the way for him to be selected in the T20I format for India but also bumped up his IPL contract price from INR 6.5 crores SRH bought in 2022.
