Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have left a mark on the world by turning into the first Indian men’s doubles pair to get the central spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Rankings. This comes after they won the gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, defeating Choi Sol-Gyu and Kim Won-ho of South Korea 21-18, 21-16. India won its first gold medal in badminton at the Asian Games with this victory.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty join Indian badminton legends Prakash Padukone, Saina Nehwal, and Kidambi Srikanth in achieving world number-one status in their respective categories, making their rise to the top of the BWF rankings significant. The duo, known as ‘Sat-Chi,’ has been in an outstanding structure since 2022. They have claimed five BWF World tour titles, starting with the Indian Open in January 2022, where they defeated Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. Their victory went on with a triumph at the French Open later that year. In 2023, they added titles from the Swiss Open, Indonesia Open, and Korea Open to their great record.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were the first Indians to win a BWF Super 1000 World Tour title with their Indonesia Open victory. Their contributions have been essential to India’s group achievements. They were indispensable to India’s memorable Thomas Cup win, where India crushed 14-time champions Indonesia. In addition, they won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 and a silver medal in the mixed-team competition.
