The power cut began around 08:00 PM on Sunday and has affected many areas, including the main airport, Nairobi, which connects East Africa with Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world.
Kipchumba Murkonen visited the airport later on Sunday and requested the police nationwide to find out the reasons behind this nationwide power blackout in Kenya and start restoration work.
Kenya Power, the state-run utility, has blamed system disturbance for this massive power cut and said that technical issues are being addressed. Later on Sunday, Kenya Power issued a statement saying it had completed the restoration process in various significant parts of the country, including residential districts in the capital. However, various areas remained without electricity on Monday morning.
This was not the first time Kenya has faced a national power cut, it has faced it three times in the last three months. During a similar power cut last month, it took engineers 12 hours to restore electricity nationwide. But the worst thing was witnessed on 25 August, the most extended power cut in the history of Kenya; it took 24 hours for the engineers to do the restoration work, and the cause remains unknown.
