The President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, along with his entourage, was given a ceremonial salute at Rashtrapati Bhavan Monday. This was the start of his official tour in the Republic of India. President Muizzu was received by India’s President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ceremony was held in the morning at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the Maldives President was welcomed with a full complement of honours, including the ceremonial guard of honour by the Indian Armed Forces.

He was received in person by President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, which manifested the close and warm relations between the two countries. It is, therefore, considered as a step towards enhancing the existing bilateral cooperation between the Government of India and the Maldives. There are cultural, economic and strategic relations between the two countries. The issues that would likely be addressed during President Muizzu’s visit are trade relations, tourism, and regional security. During the event, I thanked Prime Minister Modi, who highlighted that India and the Maldives have always had a very special bond.
President Muizzu said the same and mentioned the amicable relations between the two countries and the cooperation that is increasingly being witnessed. After the official reception, President Mohamed Muizzu will meet Indian counterparts, attend meetings at major facilities and assess the opportunities for cooperation. This visit comes at this time when the two countries are cooperating in order to ensure that there is stability in the region of the Indian Ocean. It also captures the existing and continued politico-economic cooperation and partnership between India and the Maldives to achieve developmental progress.
