BJP leader Ram Kadam has asked Maharashtra Chief Ekanth Shinde through a letter to implement a ban on the sale of meat and liquor on 22 January 2024 at the Ram Mandir Consecration event. To which NCP Leader Jitendra Awhad said that Lord Ram was a Kshatriya who used to eat meat.

Jatindra Awhad, during a rally in Nashik’s Shirdi on Wednesday, said that Lord Ram had spent 14 years of his life in the jungle; where how could he get vegetarian food? He added that Lord Ram was a Kshatriya, belonged to the minorities, and belonged to us; he went hunting and ate meat during his 14 years in the jungle. People want to turn into vegetarians, but we are following our idol, Lord Ram, who also ate meat. This statement sparked a hell of a meat ban controversy.
Ram Kadam replied to the meat ban controversy that forests also have fruits and vegetables and that it is unnecessary for one living in a forest to eat meat. They can eat fruits and vegetables for survival.
