Five individuals vomited blood when served Dry Ice as the mouth freshener at the Laforestta Cafe of Sector 90 in Gurugram on 02 March 2024. The victims have also revealed having a burning sensation in their mouths.

The footage of the people has surfaced online, where it can be seen how those who had consumed dry ice were crying at the restaurant, and one of them was vomiting blood on the floor of the cafe. After the doctors’ intervention, they only discovered that they had consumed this ice.

- Dry Ice is prepared by cooling and then condensing the CO2 gas, invented in the 1900s and commercialized in the 1920s.
- It is used across various industries, including food and beverage, medical, and research. The entertainment industry also uses this ice to create special effects.
- Dry ice is also used in shipments of products in the food and pharmaceutical industries, as it has a surface temperature of -78 degrees Celsius and can be used for frozen products. Because it does not melt, it is kept during transportation to keep the goods free from moisture.
- As we have seen in the Gurugram’s incident, it can be harmful if misused. Because of the high temperature, if misused, it can lead to cold burns and frostbite. Also, don’t forget to use appropriate gloves while handling dry ice.
- Suppose you keep much of this ice in a small or poorly ventilated room. In that case, it can lead to the generation of CO2 gas, which can cause asphyxiation and headaches, disorientation, confusion, and difficulty breathing as symptoms of oxygen deprivation.
