If you don’t know, deepfakes are images and videos in which the faces of one person have been used with another person’s body. Two men have been accused of making the deepfake pron video of Giorgia Meloni, father 74 years old and son 40 years old. Both of them are now under investigation.
The detective working on this case was able to track down the phone from where the video was uploaded. Both men have been accused of defamation, which can carry a custodial sentence under Italian law.
The video in question was posted in 2022 on a US Pornography website before Girogia Meloni was elected as the president, and the video has been viewed millions of times.
The legal team of Giorgia Meloni has said that if her claim is successful, they will donate all the €100,000 to a fund that supports the victims of male violence. The lawyer of Ms. Meloni said that the amount they seek in damages is meant to send a message to women who are victims of this kind of abuse of power so that they are not afraid to press charges.
Today, in the world of Artificial intelligence, when technology has become too powerful, one can easily misuse it for their agendas. So, the government should take steps to restrict the use of technologies like Deepfakes, as it is not the first time that the misuse of modern technology has targeted any person.
