At least four people have been killed, and more than 250 people have been injured during the violence, which started due to the order of the demolition of the madrasa and adjoining mosque in the Banbhoolpura area in Haldwani district of Uttarakhand.

As the violence took a severe turn, a curfew was imposed, and internet services were suspended on Thursday night after the residents clashed with the police personnel, pelted stones at them, and even burned vehicles and a police station as well. The Director General of Police in Uttarakhand has said that mobs had surrounded one of their police stations, and they had to call for additional forces to ward them off.
The violence started when the local administration gave the order to bring bulldozers and raze down the mosque and madrasa, which had been built illegally on Nazool land. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has called for a high-level meeting and also issued orders to shoot rioters at sight.
Police officials have confirmed that most of the people who got injured due to the clash in Haldawni were most of the police officers and some municipal workers who came there for the demolishing work. They added that one of the injured was also the SDM of Haldwani.
