The Bengaluru police have arrested a 45-year-old man who has tricked over 250 women into love scams by making fake profiles on matrimonial sites.
Fake Matrimonial Profiles Love Scam
As per the initial investigation, it has been found that the man has been befriended with those women on several matrimonial sites and social media sites. The accused has been identified as Naresh Pujari Goswami, who is from Rajasthan and has lived in this city for 20 years. He lured the women and their families to pay him by making high-profile accounts on matrimonial websites.
He was using the images of the young men with the profile of customs officials and software engineers to lure the women and their families. In this love scam, Naresh has scammed a total of 259 women from 10 different states. He lures them by posing as the customs official or the software engineer and then invites them to Bengaluru for further marriage discussion; when the woman and the family arrive to meet him, he tells them that his uncle will meet them as he has some urgent work in his office.
Then, he met the family at the railway station, pretending to be his uncle. And then, when he gets time, he used to call the woman over his phone to give his uncle 5,000 to 10,000 Indian rupees with the excuse that he had to book tickets for his family to meet each other. To complete this love scam, the uncle then says that he will return shortly after giving this money to Naresh, and finally, after fleeing from there, he switches off both his phones.
The police learned about the love scam when they got a report from a woman from Coimbatore on 23 February 2024. Naresh targets mostly divorced and widowed women and engages in late-night conversations with them to gain their trust.
