Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance has signed a non-binding agreement with the Walt Disney Co. and took one step further to close this merger between Disney Star and RIL. The merger of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema has been said to be finalized in February 2024 as both the biggest rivals in India will become one entity, with Reliance having more share 51:49. If this merger is finalized, it will be the biggest OTT merger in India.
Hotstar and JioCinema are the two major players in bidding for the rights of IPL and the International Cricket Tournaments. With this merger, this bidding rivalry can end forever. The merger can also help Hotstar by pulling it out of the losses it has seen over the last year.
