The pigeon was caught last year on 17 May by the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers police in Chembur at the Pir Pau Jetty, a chemical jetty. The pigeon was supposed to be a Chinese spy because two rings were found tied to its legs: one copper ring and one aluminum ring. Apart from this, a script in the Chinese language was also found written on the underside of both of its wings. The police kept the rings in their custody for further investigation while they sent the pigeon to the hospital for a checkup.
Dr Mayur Dangar, the hospital manager, said the bird was in fine condition. As per the police investigation, it has been found that the bird was used to race in open waters in Taiwan, and in one such incident, it flew away and landed in India. Further, police have added that the spy charges have been dropped, and the bird has been freed.
