Canadian MP Chanda Arya has recently expressed his concern over the emergence of Khalistani extremism as a domestic threat in Canada that cannot wait any longer. Arya insisted that the radical movement inside the country is to be combated with the help of local forces and added that foreign intervention in the process is inadmissible. This statement came in after relations between Canada and India had soured following what PM Justin Trudeau has said regarding India’s role in the assassination of Khalistani militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Arya stressed that the problem of Khalistani extremism supporters has been relevant for many years in Canada, and Hindus living in the country are afraid due to increased aggression. He said he supports the Hindus complaining that although they were generally silent on the issue, their silence could likely have been mistaken for subjugation. It is clear Arya called on Hindu Canadians to speak up to demand that politics protect them. He stated that the other important areas that require action by the Canadian government are the prevention of extremism and the threat of peace within the country. Arya highlighted that violence demanded Ontario and Canada address extremism in cooperation with nations that suffered from it.
He noted that violent Khalistani extremism is a situation where people become unusually aggressive and violent and go further to cause havoc across borders and thus needs international partnership in order to combat the problem effectively. He pointed out that new economic sanctions between Canada and India might harm the process of addressing the emergence of new dangerous tendencies related to Khalistani terrorism. Arya called on the federal government to engage with the affected countries more to safeguard citizen’s lives from terrorism and extremism.
