The violence that erupted outside the Brampton Hindu Temple, Canada, has been condemned in a statement by the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwara Council (OSGC). The event took place on Sunday close to the temporary camp set up by the Indian consulate in association with the Brampton Hindu Temple, located in a town just on the outskirts of Toronto. In an official statement, OSGC called the incident a ‘violent disruption’ and stressed that violence cannot be tolerated in a society. In this regard, the organization once again affirmed that it would play the role of building harmony and unity among the diverse communities of Canada and that its main and crucial duty is to maintain the safety of the people.

The council urged local authorities to closely examine the situation and get to work on preventing such occurrences in the future. Through the request for a further investigation, OSGC, at the same time, pointed out the need for swift action by law enforcement agencies to avoid further occurrence of such incidents and escalation of social tensions. They also urged authorities to continue being on the lookout for any other efforts by outside factions to sow division. Representatives of OSGC believe that such cases violate Canadian society’s multiculturalism and interethnic and interreligious tolerance.
They came out in support of the no-violence and called on all the communities to support one another for the common cause of advocating for peace in the country. Many Brampton and other parts of communities have supported OSGC’s stand by demanding more initiatives on the part of the various cultural groups. The Brampton Hindu Temple and consular officials alike have also wished for a quick conclusion on the matter and a guarantee of the personal safety of all participants in future meetings.
