Alma Gamongan, from Apayao, gives birth to a baby boy whose head is full of hair, his sideburns are black, and patches of hair cover his face, neck, arms, back, and legs.
The baby boy with such a unique condition has been named Jaren. He is two years old, and his whole body is covered with hair. His mother thinks the boy has this unique condition because she ate a cat during her pregnancy. Alma said that during her pregnancy, she craved to eat a wild cat, a rare dish in her remote mountain region, and she could not resist. So, she got a black cat from her friends and cooked it with herbs to satisfy her cravings.
But when Jaren gives birth, she regrets her decision to eat a cat during her pregnancy, believing a curse has fallen upon her son because of that. Some villagers also said that this rare condition of the boy is because of some curse.
However, doctors have something else to say; they are saying that the kid is suffering from a rare medical condition, which is known as werewolf syndrome or hypertrichosis.
Jaren’s older brother and sister do not have this type of condition. His mom said they had even tried cutting that hair, but they grew longer and thicker every time, so they stopped.
Medical experts say this condition affects one in every one billion people, and only 50 cases of werewolf syndrome have been reported worldwide since the Middle Ages. Although this condition is not yet cured, laser hair removal could help.
