Finally, after months of investigation into the theft of $16 million worth of gold and currency, officials revealed that nine suspects were involved in this gold heist. Six have been arrested, while the others are still on the run. The arrest of these six suspects was possible because of the joint operation of Canadian and US authorities.
One of the arrested suspects has been identified as Parmpal Sidhu, a 54-year-old Air Canada employee. Police have revealed that nine people, including two Air Canada employees, planned all this theft. One has been arrested, and Simran Preet Panesar is still being searched.
The loss includes 6,600 gold bars weighing 400 kg and $2 mn in foreign currency. The robbery took place a year ago at the Air Canada cargo facility at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. The stolen gold was melted down to conceal its origins, and the profits are believed to have been used to finance the acquisition of firearms. As many as 65 firearms were believed to have been confiscated.
