Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met on Wednesday to unanimously re-elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the alliance’s leader following the results of the Lok Sabha election. As the BJP struggles to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha for the first time since Modi assumed power a decade ago, it must now engage in coalition politics. After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 seats, 32 fewer than the 272 needed for a majority, Prime Minister Modi’s discussions about a coalition were crucial. This is a significant decrease from the party’s previous victories when it won 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats in the 2019 general election.

The BJP’s reliance on its allies will be more crucial than ever as Modi begins his efforts to obtain the necessary support to form a government.
