The dismissal led to controversy since the Snickometer indicated a faint sound, and many questioned whether the ball was hitting the bat or the bat was hitting the pad. Richard Illingworth, the third umpire, then decided that Rahul was out ow doing so because the ball had touched the bat. Rahul’s Test career tally now reads 3000 test runs in 54 matches at an average of 33.78 with eight hundred and 15 fifties in 92 innings. To date, his record is still 199. Always a fluent performer, Rahul has established himself as a solid performer up the order, especially in alien conditions.
Pity for the hundreds of wickets he made in England, South Africa, and Australia, which proves that he is capable of performing anywhere. Even so, critics have pegged him as inconsistent, with changes in form resulting in fluctuation in his position on the team. Still, achieving the 3000 test runs mark is an achievement that can be further complemented to enhance the contribution of the cricketer to Indian cricket. As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy unfolds, fans will be interested to know whether Rahul will make good use of this achievement and perform equally well in the series.
