Australia will increase the quota for young Indian citizens entering on Work and Holiday visas from 500 to 1000 people starting from October 1, 2024. This facility is ahead of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), which has been effective since December 2022. The new holiday visa program has been devised to foster bilateral relations between the two countries by increasing opportunities for people to move temporarily. Those Indians who shall be accorded Work and Holiday visa shall be in Australia for up to one year, in one cycle, to both work and tour the country.

It will enable them to showcase and engage in short-term employment and interact with the Australian culture during their visit. The sampled agreement depicts the burgeoning dynamics of the relationship between Australia and India beyond the trade and economic partnership that the two countries enjoy, but also through a civilizing process. These improvements have young, fresh Indian, professional workers, and travellers who want to have a chance to experience Australian life, as this holiday visa initiative will help them.
With such an agreement, the youth of India will get more chances to work as well as travel in Australia and vice versa, so the main objective of both the countries is to enhance understanding of both the cultures, employment, tourism, increase in student exchange etc. Such kind of development under AI-ECTA seems to further improve the India-Australia bilateral relations. It also shows that further stronger, more effective, and more linked channels will provide better opportunities to skilled Australian workers and travellers from India, which will build a stronger and brighter tomorrow for both countries.
