Two NASA astronauts, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, are apparently ready to return back to Earth after a one-week International Space Station (ISS mission that has extended for months. The delay was attributed to some adverse issues surrounding the Boeing Starliner spacecraft that was to transport them back. At this point, NASA determined that the Starliner was too dangerous for the astronauts to use at the current time. The ISS has been replenished with supplies thanks to NASA sending the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule for their safe return.

This spacecraft was part of a mission called Crew-9, and it arrived at the space station around 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. The spacecraft developed by SpaceX will ferry Williams and Wilmore back to Earth starting from this flight. This is another win for NASA and SpaceX in recent years after the two organized to work together. The astronauts’ stay on the International Space Station was not planned to be this long. However, Williams and Wilmore have not been bored since. They have been conducting scientific experiments and performing actions in space station-related maintenance tasks.
With the arrival of the SpaceX capsule, they are likely to leave soon, though no specific date has been given on when they will be leaving. NASA, together with Boeing, are still assessing some of the problems that the Starliner has encountered over the years of its development. As Boeing strives to address these problems, Congress expects NASA to carry on using SpaceX for safe and efficient space travel to the International Space Station.
