The city has been discovered using LiDAR, also called laser scanning or 3D scanning, a popular remote sensing method that uses light to measure distance.
Prof Stephen Rostain, who led this research and is also the director of the investigation at the National Centre for Scientific Research in France, has said that this is the oldest of any of the sites we have found in the Amazon Rainforest.
Antoine Dorison, the study’s co-author, said that this discovery changed our perception of what ancient people lived like. Most people picture them living in small groups, probably naked, in clearing land or huts. Still, this discovery of the 3000-year-old city shows that the ancient people lived in complicated urban societies. As per the report, it has been revealed that it is the site where wooden houses stood once, while excavations have revealed the fireplaces and post holes on these structures.
As per the study, it has been found that this city is between 3000 and 1500 years old and is older than the other cities we have discovered in the Amazon, and people might have lived here for over 1000 years. The LiDAR survey was carried out in 2015, but the results have been published recently.
