In the latest development in the political crisis over the Maharashtra Chief Minister post, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde has rubbished speculations about his likely being made Deputy Chief Minister. On Monday, Shrikant, the son of caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde, dismissed the rumours as baseless. There has been talk and controversy because the swearing-in ceremony for the Maha-Yuti government has not happened as planned. Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde had to stay in his native place for two days due to his feelings. This has only fuelled the speculations,” Shrikant Shinde purged in a tweet. He categorically denied any involvement in running for any ministerial post in Maharashtra; he dismissed the information as rumours.

The time taken to form the new Maha-Yuti (Grand Alliance government) has meant that political debates have been ratcheted up, with some reports indicating strains in the alliance’s relations over the docketing for cabinet positions. However, Shrikant Shinde’s clarification is to try to avoid misunderstandings and infighting within the alliance. Eknath Shinde, who helms the Shiv Sana faction in the BJP fold, remains the interim chief minister. His temporary withdrawal from public activities because of some health challenges has compounded the future of the formation of the government.
BJP, along with Maha Yuti, which comprises the Eknath Shinde faction of Shivsena, bagged the majority in the recent elections, but the long saga of government formation raised many questions in leadership roles. Speaking to the media recently, Maharashtra BJP president Shrikant Shinde addressed this aspect by affirming efforts were being made to avoid friction within the alliance as leaders seek to find a solution to the standstill over major posts like Chief Minister. Maharashtra’s political climate continues to be fluid, and more dialogue takes place behind closed doors.
