Due to cyclone Fengal, which led to very many cases of rainfall in Puducherry, the Puducherry government closed down all the government and private schools and colleges on Tuesday, 3 December. This was announced by Puducherry’s Education Minister, A. Namachivayam, due to the prevailing insecurity in the country, hence the need to ensure student and staff security. The cyclone brought some kind of rainfall to the area, with the Union Territory receiving 48 % of its expected rainfall for a day, which hampered normal activities.

Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy said the government is keen on offering compensation to the next of kin of the victims as a way of easing their financial burden. Rangaswamy said this while briefing the media early Monday on the decision by the Puducherry government to give Rs. 5,000 each to ration card holders affected by Cyclone Fengal. Several areas have been flooded by Cyclone Fengal, and the administration is in the process of succumbing to normalcy with additional effort that should be made to ensure that essential services are not hindered.
People have been advised to continue to exercise precaution and follow notices from disaster response committees. Shelters have been arranged through relief centres for those affected, and all security services are awaiting emergencies in the affected areas. The cyclone is still causing havoc in the region, with the Puducherry government working in consonance with weather agencies to gather more information. The relief assistance announcement, as well as the existing holiday to educational institutions, points to the fact that the administration fosters public safety and welfare in such testing times.
