NC’s president of politics and senior political leader, Farooq Abdullah, termed the Gagangir terror attack as demonising tyranny and said such atrocities will never capture the essence of Kashmir and transform it into Pakistan. In his bravado, Abdullah said: “Kashmir Pakistan nahi banega,” meaning that irrespective of what happens, the state will not be a part of Pakistan but will remain part of India. His remarks came in the backdrop of terror incidents in the region with militants trying to mar the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir. As you mentioned, Abdullah, no level of violence will be able to separate people or the nation.

He insisted that only in the course of the discussions can the current conflict be settled and, in that way, terrorism can be combatted. The Gagangir terror attack is one of the repeated events in recent years that led to tensions in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
Abdullah’s call for negotiations and the cessation of armed conflict can be said to match his consistent line that the way to stability and NW [Near West] development is through friendship with Pakistan, not through antagonism. He also stressed the fact that though the Gagangir terror attack has been reported to be on low, the situation on the ground is still very tense, and therefore, effort needs to be grouped in tackling this menace. It’s another interesting point when Abdullah states that terrorism can and will not answer the questions of future of the Kashmir, it is only in the negotiations.
