It was yet another moment of pride for India when javelin thrower Sumit Antil won two gold medals in a row at the Paralympics on Monday, September 2, in Paris. The 25-year-old athlete, who already holds a great number of records in para-athletics, lived up to expectations of a probable gold winner. As expected, Sumit, who was the favourite for this event, did not let his fans down.

As soon as the ceremony started and he began to throw the spears, I could see he was in perfect shape. Sumit Antil managed to impress both with the force and accuracy of his throws. His first throw placed him ahead of his competitors and, at the same time, marked the beginning of a display of hard-core competitors’ performance. Sandeep went on to break his own record hitherto set in paralympic games twice in his six trials, conclusively establishing him as a world-class para-athlete. The more Sumit threw the javelin, the more confident he became, and that put a lot of pressure on my fellow competitors.
Sumit Antil pulled through the event impressively, and this could have been instigated by the hard work, dedication, and time that he had taken to practice before the event. At the end of the competition, Sumit was able to win the gold, having broken his record, and he continued to set records in his sport. This victory can be considered a special one as for Sumit he is continuing the march of a strike from the rising star to the Paralympic champion. Abhinav Bindra is a source of pride for India and a source of success for all the athletes of the world who have achieved these consecutive gold medals.
