As per this new scheme introduced by the Indian Railways, the unreserved compartments can now get healthy meals and snacks for just Rs 20. Currently, 150 counters are set up in nearly 100 railway stations all over India, and officials plan to set up more such counters across the country.
Indian Railways has also revealed that it successfully conducted a pilot test across 51 stations before implementing this new scheme.
This service is currently available for general class passengers. The officials think that in summer, railways are expecting more passengers and that it might be difficult for passengers to get hygienic meals at affordable prices, so they have started this initiative, especially for the unreserved compartments.
The meals will be available in two varieties: Economy Meals at Rs 20 and Snack Meals at Rs 50. Passengers can also get refreshments from these counters, so there will no longer be any need to search for vendors or step out of railway stations to get some refreshments.
