India has developed the world’s highest railway bridge, the Chenab Rail Bridge, in Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower.

The world’s highest railway bridge, having an arch-shaped steel structure, has been built over the Chenab River links section of the mountainous region of Jammu and Kashmir. This Chenab Rail Bridge will connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India.
Here are nine things that you should know about the Chenab Rail Bridge
- Chenab Rail Bridge is the World’s Highest Railway Bridge, built at 359 meters over the Chenab River of Jammu and Kashmir.
- The bridge is 1.3 km long and forms a crucial link in the 111-km stretch from Katra to Banihal, part of the Rs 21,653-crore Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link project.
- The bridge is situated in the Reasi district of J&K.
- It has been reported that over Rs 1,486 crore has been spent on constructing this bridge.
- The construction work of the Chenab Rail Bridge was started in 2002 as a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (USBRL) project. The arch was completed in 2021, and the overall construction of the world’s highest bridge was completed in August 2022.
- The bridge has been built to withstand earthquakes, wind speeds of 266 km per hour, and extreme weather conditions prevalent in the region.
- The bridge has been featured with an arch-shaped design, making it one of the best architecture marvels.
- The life span of the bridge has been estimated to be 120 years. The bridge can withstand a wind speed of 266 mph, while the train can cross over the bridge at 100 mph.
- Once the bridge is fully functional, a high-speed Vande Bharat Metro train will start running over this bridge between Jammu and Srinagar.
